Found only in the wilds of Africa, river and pygmy hippos live near swamps, lakes, and slow-moving rivers. Pygmy hippos are extremely rare. They are only about four to five feet long, and tend to live alone. However, river hippos are the some of the worlds largest land mammals weighing more than 8,000 pounds. They are commonly found in herds of up to two hundred hippos.
