Bunnies' Picnic

Using bunnies from one to eight, this delightful counting book follows the escapades of a bunny family trying to make dinner. First they all work together to make a delicious bunny stew, but when this first attempt is spilled all over the floor, the bunnies slump together briefly in hungry discouragement. Soon though, they band together once again to make a second dinner of whatever they can find left in the garden. This turns out to be a lovely night picnic that leaves the whole family happy and satisfied. Following the eight bunnies through their trials provides plenty of practice for preschoolers at counting from one to eight and back down again. The underlying themes of family, perseverance, and teamwork are also worthwhile. The story is told in verse, making it an easy read-aloud. And the bold, colorful illustrations give the eight bunnies engaging and distinctive personalities, adding charm to this happy story.
