Latino Culture

Thanks to generous support from Disney and in collaboration with REFORMA, First Book has created activity-filled tip sheets and paired them with a selection of books from our Latino Culture section. Each pairing was designed to help educators and programs leaders celebrate diverse cultures, whether as part of ongoing programs or as part of community literacy activities, such as El día de los niños/El día de los libros, Children's Day/Book Day (or Día-Diversity in Action) celebrations.

Each tip sheet, intended for use with elementary age children, includes activities and discussion ideas that are especially helpful for exploring Latino culture, traditions, and heritage with non-Latino children, broadening their understanding of cultures beyond their own.

REFORMAFirst Book is grateful to REFORMA - The National Association to Promote Library Services to Latinos and the Spanish Speaking for supporting creative community literacy and for collaborating to promote this resource. Established in 1971 as an affiliate of the American Library Association (ALA), REFORMA promotes the development of library collections and library services and programs to meet the needs of the Latino community.
