Maya & Miguel: Rain or Shine (Scholastic Reader Level 2)
"Maya is crazy about Earth Day, which her teacher has announced is coming within a week. She has asked the class to work on a project either singly or as a team. They will also be visited by The Global Earth Day Committee, which will select a project for its web site. Maya announces that she and her friends are going to clean up a neighborhood lot and create a community garden. The kids tackle the project and with some adult help to haul away the trash, they get the lot cleaned. The committee comes early and the garden is not ready. In the meantime, Tito has been working on a project of his own. The ending brings home the message of recycling and the need to reduce dependence on plastic products. For those who watch PBS Kids Go! the characters will be familiar. This is a Level 2 book in the "Scholastic Reader" series, which is appropriate for beginning readers."--Children's Literature
