What is the Playful Cities Challenge Session Pack?
In this document you’ll find everything you need to run the Playful Cities Challenge, a Build the Change session for 7 to 12+ year olds, running about 45-90 minutes+.
The session invites children to “put cities in play mode” as part of the LEGO Group's World Play Day campaign. World Play Day is how the LEGO Group celebrates the International Day of Play – a day dedicated to children's right to play, taking place on June 11th each year. This challenge can be enjoyed before World Play Day, on the day itself or anytime after!
Children will reflect on the challenges to finding space and time to play in cities, then imagine and express their ideas for making cities more playful, using any creative materials available.
Hopefully they will also be inspired to gain creative confidence and to understand that their ideas, and their voices, matter.
Please feel free to adapt the materials to work for your local setting. As long as children have the experience of using creativity to tackle the real world challenges around finding everyday play in cities, they will have built the change.
These materials were created in collaboration with subject matter expert Arup, a global collective of designers, engineers and technical experts dedicated to using technology, imagination and research to shape a better world.
