Getting Started

The First Book Marketplace (FBMP) is an online store selling high-quality children's books and educational materials at deeply discounted prices to organizations serving children from low-income families. All prices include free shipping to the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and the District of Columbia.

The FBMP is an initiative of the award-winning nonprofit organization First Book. Currently, the FBMP is not able to sell to organizations located outside of the United States. Books purchased from the FBMP cannot be resold.

Here's what you need to do to get started:

1. You first need to register with First Book. This is a one-time step.
   The First Book Marketplace's mission is to provide affordable books for organizations serving children from low-income families. In order to be eligible to purchase books from the First Book Marketplace, your organization must:
   
   
   • Serve children where at least 50% are from low-income households OR be a Title I or Title I eligible school.
   • Not discriminate against individuals based on race, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, religion or physical or mental ability.
   
   
2. After registering, you can return to the Marketplace to choose Your Books. All orders must exceed $100.
   
   
3. Check Out. You will be asked to enter your billing information. You can pay by credit card or electronic check.
   
   
4. Set Up a Purchase Account. Once you have finished the checkout process, you will be asked to create a purchase account. This account is set up to keep your financial information secure and to give your organization an easy and quick way to pay for your purchase. This is a one time step.
   
   
5. Your Books Arrive! The First Book Marketplace ships books for free via UPS Ground. Order by Tuesday and your order will be shipped by the following Wednesday.
   

Please note that the First Book Marketplace is not able to ship books under any circumstances until payment has been received.

If delivery is unsuccessful due to customer error (such as providing an incorrect shipping address), a delivery surcharge will be assessed before the Marketplace can ship out the books again. (Please see our store policies for complete details.)
